Three Prescott alums return to encourage current students to go to college!Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors and members of Tiger Council began the holiday break with visions of college dancing through their heads. December 20th the GEAR UP Tiger Council leadership group sponsored an event called Prescott Grads Talk to Prescott Students About College. Three recent Prescott graduates who were home from college came back to tell about their experiences at university. After brief introductions in the cafeteria students were divided into three small groups and sent to classrooms with teacher observers and college guests. Greg Guillen, Ivone Guillen, and Brian Magaña shared what it’s like to attend WSU Pullman, Gonzaga, and Central Washington Universities. They covered topics from the cafeteria to tuition and recreation. Prescott students were rapt as they heard about all night study sessions, exciting intramural sports, and just how a person applies, gets accepted, pays for, and survives at a four year school. The college students shared many different stories from their respective schools, but two messages were clear to all students. First, you don’t have to have straight As to go to college. One student in particular was very candid in telling students that he didn’t see the importance of grades and college until very late in his senior year. However, with some effort he was still accepted to a great school! Second, the key to getting to college and staying there is planning. The college students talked about the effort it took to complete applications, meet deadlines, and how hard it sometimes is at school to meet all of your obligations. Prescott students were fantastic listeners and asked many great questions that allowed for information to flow! Prescott GEAR UP and Tiger Council applaud Greg, Ivone, and Brian for their success at school and extend sincere thanks for their visit to Prescott School!
