Touchet Middle School students will soon be participating in the annual CO2 car science project. This year a required part of the assignment will be a concept of their cars created with the ProDesktop CAD program. Student in years past have drawn two dimensional drawings of their cars before they begin to cut their wood block into the car it will eventually become. This year GEARUP has provided 300 licenses for students to use in school or at home to design a three dimensional concept of their car. Students can design and test any one part of their car, then assemble it to locate any problems or design flaws before they cut their unforgiving piece of wood. There will be two competitions: one for design, and the other for speed. We are encouraging all students to spend their design time after-school with GEARUP where there will be two tutors who have been trained by ProDesktop professionals. We are looking forward to seeing the great designs and the good spirit of competition. |

On January 18th GEAR UP hosted a Parent Night for 10th grade students and parents. Parents had the opportunity to attend the event in either English (presented by Kim Grady-Andrews, H.S. Counselor) or Spanish (presented by Enrique Tarver, GU Site Dir.). Presentations included how to read your score report, how to improve your scores and we also introduced the College Board's My Road online program. Parent's I spoke with said they were pleased with the wealth of information available from their child's score report and the My Road program. Over 25 families attended the PSAT Parent Night. Sophmores unable to attend received their score reports the following Monday and were also given time to explore My Road. |

Touchet School Dist. and GEARUP hosted a Sophomore/Freshman night to make the parents aware that post-secondary planning needs to start before their students are juniors. GEARUP also provided the sophomores with an early chance to take the PSAT's in October. The second part of the evening was spend going over their scores and how it compares to possible SAT performance. Thirty people attended and we were able to get good feedback on our after-school and in-class programs as well. Thank you Touchet counselor Shelly Perkins for letting us be a part of her presentation. |
